Arraial do Cabo - Rio de Janeiro

Arraial do Cabo - Rio de Janeiro - Brazilian Cities

In Arraial do Cabo, the visitor will find white-sand beaches of crystal-clear water, dunes, reefs, ecological reserves, preserved Atlantic Forest, six-thousand-year-old sambaquis (hills made of shells and other items from pre-historic inhabitants) and one of the most appropriate regions for fishing in the planet. The local people are welcoming and friendly, their hospitality will make your stay an unforgettable moment.

Arraial do Cabo

Arraial do Cabo was formed as a result of the connection to remote islands caused by the wind and sea current action, which took thousands of years. It’s like a fishermen’s village, called by the local people as the “Paradise of the Atlantic Ocean” for its fantastic views. The short distance to the City of Rio de Janeiro and other beautiful places, such as Armação de Búzios, Cabo Frio, Saquarema, Araruama and São Pedro da Aldeia, is an excellent invitation to tourism.

At a distance of 140 km from the State’s capital, Arraial do Cabo is located in the center of an important tour area. Few places offer so many alternatives to the visitor, from paradisaical beaches to hikes through the exuberant vegetation of the Atlantic Forest. And the best of all: a perfect infrastructure prepared to welcome all types of visitor.

Arraial is noted for being one of the best places in the country for the practice of diving, with transparent waters and several species of sea life. The main points to practice diving are: Ilha dos Porcos, Ponta D’Água, Saco do Cordeiro and shipwrecked Thetis.

Pontal Beach
This is the first beach on the left side for those arriving at the city. It’s between Foguete Beach, in Cabo Frio, and Miranda Hill, 4 km from the central area of Arraial. It has 700 m of calm sea, perfect for trawling fishing.

It has 1 km of sea, and it’s about 800 m from the central area of Arraial do Cabo. It’s urbanized, with kiosks and short buildings, a traditional landscape of the city. A track on its right side takes to Graçainha Beach, which has only 15 m of sea and whose sand strip only appears during low tide periods.

Praia Grande
It’s on Avenida Projetada Beira Mar, 1 km from the central area of the city. This long oceanic beach has 1,300 m of sea, with kiosks and urbanized area. The waves are strong and the view also includes dunes of white and fine sand.

Anjos Beach
Located in Anjos Bay, with transparent and warm waters. On the left side there is fishermen’s marina and Forno Harbor. On the right side, Pontal do Atalaia Hill. It also has wharf from which tour and fishing boats leave.

Forno Beach
Located in Forno Bay, the access to this beach is through an unpaved and little steep track or the sea. It’s on the left of Anjos Beach, and about 1.5 km from the central area of the city.

Small Beaches
They are located in Boqueirão Bay besides Pontal do Atalaia. They are separated one from another by stones, and the total extension of all small beaches together is 1 km. This place provides a wonderful view of Cabo Frio Island.

Brava Beach
It’s the surfers’ favorite beach, as its waves are always very high and strong. It’s dangerous for bathing and very desert in low season. It’s about 2 km from the central area of Arraial do Cabo, and it can only be accessed walking through Atalaia Hill.

Massambaba Beach
It has 25 km of sea, and it’s the continuation of Praia Grande.

Southeast Beach
Its attractions include salt mines around this beach and Araruama Laguna, as well as the casuarinas near the shore.

Blue Grot
Place of extreme natural beauty that can be admired during boat rides.

Blue Laguna
A beautiful and cozy place, with transparent waters. It’s like an extension of Araruama Laguna. It’s only 10 minutes from the central area of Arraial do Cabo, and one of the favorite places of the tourists that visit the city.

Oceanographic Museum
It has a small collection of curious pieces used in navigation, besides shells, skeletons and aquariums. It’s at Praça Daniel Barreto, Anjos Beach. It’s open from Tuesdays to Fridays, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm; on Saturdays and Sundays, it’s open from 1 pm to 4:30 pm.

Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Church
